Detroit Field Trip

The field trip to Channel 4 and the Detroit Free Press involved once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that I am fortunate to have been a part of. Our tour of Channel 4 was fascinating, particularly when watching the weather forecast get filmed before our eyes. The fact that just a small sound, such as a cell phone going off, would ruin the broadcast made me realize how detail-oriented visual storytelling is. It was also interesting to have a reporter ask our class for interviews on the spot, since this shows that anyone can be valuable to a journalist. It was also really cool to sit in on a meeting with the agenda setters of the Detroit Free Press, since it is debatably the most prominent newspaper in the state of Michigan. I loved hearing the conversation between editors and getting an inside perspective of what it is like to be a gatekeeper. Attached are a few pictures of our class on the field trip.
